JAMES
BECKWOURTH
His
greatest contribution came in 1850 when he located a lower pass through
the Sierra Nevada Mountains to California. It was much safer for
immigrants than the Donner Trail. Located north of Reno, Nevada,
Beckwourth's pass still exists as an example of his resourcefulness.
In 1995, the city of Marysville renamed the place near the end of the
trail Beckwourth Riverfront Park.
